FAQ

What is included in an equipment package?

A ski equipment package includes skis, boots, poles. A snowboard package includes a board, boots, bindings.

Do I have to pick up my equipment on the date and time I requested?

No, you can pick up early or late and we will adjust your reservation for you at pickup.  We understand that winter travel doesn’t always go to plan and only charge you for a deposit when you make your reservation.  If you are able to pick up early and get an extra day, great! We’ll add it on.  Flight come in late, or someone needed a nap? If you don’t make it in on the date your originally reserved, no big deal, we can take a day off.

Can I pick up my equipment the day before I plan to use it?

Yes, you can pick up your equipment anytime after 3pm and not be charged for the day, although we recommend if you can, wait until after 5pm when the rush of returns is over.

What is the best time to pick up equipment?

If you are taking a ski lesson that starts in the morning or want to be on the lifts when they start turning, we recommend you come and pick up your equipment at least the night before.  Mornings are our biggest rush with everyone trying to pick up their equipment right before the lifts start turning.  If you have more time in the morning, come in at 10am or after and the morning rush should be over.

Are helmets included in my rental package?

Helmets are not included in the package, because many people now travel with their own helmet.  We do have helmet rentals and strongly suggest everyone renting skis or boards use a helmet.  We also have helmets for purchase in all of our shops.

What does the equipment protection plan cover?

If you get the equipment protection plan, any damage that occurs to the equipment will be covered. Loss or theft is not covered.

Can I pick up my equipment at one location and drop it off at another location?

Absolutely! If you plan on skiing in Breckenridge, Beaver Creek or Vail, drop your ski or snowboard off at the most convenient location.

How are you keeping guests and employees safe during the rental process?

In addition to increasing the frequency with which we clean high-traffic areas in our stores, we will also limit the number of guests in each location. Employees and guests are required to wear masks and social distance while inside our stores, and we will provide sanitary stations for us as needed. We also offer a touchless payment system and have installed plexiglass barriers and floor markings. Each piece of equipment will be thoroughly sanitized between rentals. We will do our best to accommodate new guidelines as they arrive because our employees’ and guests’ safety is our top priority.

Will reservations be required for rentals?

We don’t require reservations, but we do recommend them. Making a reservation guarantees you will have the equipment you want for your trip. If you rent without making a reservation, we can’t guarantee that you will get your first choice of equipment. Reserving equipment as a new customer allows us to use your skill level and boot size to pull the best gear that fits your experience and style. To make the rental process flow smoothly, we keep records of past rentals to make sure our returning customers get the same gear every time they make a reservation. However, you are welcome to browse our available rental equipment if you choose to visit without making a reservation.

How do I make a reservation?

Just visit our “Book Now” web page and choose the location where you would like to pick up the gear, then follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the reservation. Our website is available 24/7 to make reservations, and if you have any questions about the process, you can call one of our stores during regular business hours.

Can I exchange my equipment if I want something different?

Of course! We want you to enjoy your time on the slopes, so you are free to change equipment at any of our ski and snowboard rental locations for free at any time during your trip. Additionally, you are welcome to upgrade or downgrade packages as necessary. You can even swap from ski and snowboard rentals or vice versa if you want to try a different winter sport during your time in Colorado.

What are your rental shop hours?

Most of our locations are open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and our satellite stores operate from 8:00AM to 6:00PM. You can pick up your reserved rental equipment at any time on the day your reservation starts and return it to any location at any time on the last day of your reservation.

Will your rental shops be open this season?

We plan to open all of our physical locations in Breckenridge, Vail, Avon, and Beaver Creek, but we will take appropriate precautions to safely do so. Peak season runs from November to April.

Can I rent from one location and return to another?

Yes, you can rent from any of our four locations and return the gear to another one. Feel free to hit the slopes in Avon, Beaver Creek, Vail, and Breckenridge while you are here, and just return your equipment to whichever location is your last stop.

Can I reserve a specific ski or snowboard rental?

We can’t guarantee that we can meet every request for a specific piece of winter sports equipment, but we will do our best. Just list the model you want to reserve in the “Requests” box when you make a reservation.

How do I cancel an existing reservation?

We understand that sometimes plans change unexpectedly, and you no longer need a reservation for winter sports equipment. We require a deposit on the day you reserve the gear, but we are happy to cancel your reservation and refund the deposit if we are notified in advance. Call us at least 48 hours prior to your reservation to have your $20 deposit refunded. We can still cancel the reservation within 48 hours of pickup, but we will not be able to refund your deposit without advance notice.

Which package should I get?

We offer four packages to cater to winter sports enthusiasts of different skill levels. Our junior package is geared towards young skiers and snowboarders who are just learning how to hit the slopes. The Bronze package is designed for beginners who aren’t yet comfortable on the slopes, while the Silver package is for people who are moderately experienced traversing the slopes on skis and snowboards. The Gold package is for high-performance athletes and experienced winter sports enthusiasts interested in speed and have no trouble with the terrain.

How do I return Base Mountain Sports rental equipment?

When your reservation has ended, simply stop by any Base Mountain Sports store to return your rental equipment. You do not have to return the gear to the same location you picked it up from, so feel free to travel among Beaver Creek, Avon, Breckenridge, or Vail with the equipment you rent and just return it to the nearest location when your trip is over. We will examine the rental equipment to ensure it is still in good condition and sanitize it before renting it out to someone else.
